Inpatient care of diabetic foot complications under the spotlight

The role of inpatient podiatry teams and their impact on outcomes has been examined in a new article in the Journal of Diabetes Nursing.

Authors Joelle Baynham and Debbie Sharman, both Consultant Podiatrists, look in detail at:

  • The importance of clear referral and management pathways
  • Education packages supporting simple foot-check risk assessments on admission, to aid timely identification of people admitted with diabetic foot ulcers
  • A palliative approach for patients for whom further revascularisation options may not be possible, or appropriate
  • How podiatrists can utilise their expert clinical and leadership skills to enhance future service delivery.
