Authors Joelle Baynham and Debbie Sharman, both Consultant Podiatrists, look in detail at:
- The importance of clear referral and management pathways
- Education packages supporting simple foot-check risk assessments on admission, to aid timely identification of people admitted with diabetic foot ulcers
- A palliative approach for patients for whom further revascularisation options may not be possible, or appropriate
- How podiatrists can utilise their expert clinical and leadership skills to enhance future service delivery.
