Experts lined up for international diabetic foot conference

Healthcare professionals with an interest in diabetic foot problems are invited to the longest-standing international diabetic foot conference.

The 19th Malvern Diabetic Foot Conference takes place from Wednesday, May 11 to Friday, May 13, and brings together experts on diabetic foot from up to 10 countries, predominantly North America and Western Europe.

The three-day conference is designed to engage physicians, surgeons, podiatrists, orthotists and nursing staff with an interest in diabetic foot and offers the opportunity to connect with industry on the latest innovations and trends.

Sessions include:

• In-patient diabetes footcare: an update
• Painful and painless neuropathies in diabetes – what’s new?
• Diabetic Foot Ulceration and risk of amputation or death: data from Scotland
• Functional expectations and outcomes after major Charcot reconstruction
• How the Multidisciplinary Team can help manage complications after orthopaedic diabetic foot surgery
• Foot perfusion: what is adequate and how to assess for it
• Multiple Interventions for Diabetic Foot Ulcer Treatment Trial (MIDFUT): Study update
• Setting up a vascular limb salvage service: Leicester experience
• Antibiotic therapies for DFUs – when, which one and which route of administration?
• 10 Point training to upskill community, residential home and ward staff on basic foot examination, insulin safety and blood glucose management.

Speakers include Professor Andrew Boulton from the University of Manchester, Professor Gerry Rayman from the Diabetes and Endocrine Centre and the Diabetic Foot Clinic, Ipswich Hospitals NHS Trust, Professor Pratik Choudhary from the University of Leicester, and Professor Venu Kavarthapu from King’s College Hospital.

The conference, which takes place at The Abbey Hotel in Great Malvern, offers 10 category 1 CPD credits.
