World’s first non-invasive glucose monitoring device hits 75 per cent accuracy in first real-world trial

Afon Technology’s Glucowear™ device has achieved approximately 75 per cent overall accuracy in distinguishing between normal and elevated blood glucose levels during its first, real-world trial.

The innovative device was worn by Sabih Chaudhry, CEO of Afon Technology, who tested it during his regular daily activities, with the sensor placed on his dominant writing hand.

The attached graph shows Glucowear™ readings, highlighting both high and normal glucose ranges alongside corresponding FreeStyle Libre data.

The Monmouthshire-based company is pioneering the world’s first non-invasive blood glucose monitor, which is tipped to transform diabetes care.

Preliminary results demonstrate its potential in real-life settings, and the company is actively working on further improving the performance and reliability of the glucose estimation models.

Sabih said: “Wearing Glucowear™ in my own day-to-day life has been an incredibly proud moment.

“To see our technology successfully operate beyond the clinical environment proves the strength of what our team has built.”

He added: “This is more than innovation, it represents a truly game-changing step towards making glucose monitoring simpler, more comfortable, and more accessible for people everywhere.”

Unlike current continuous glucose monitoring devices, Glucowear™ works without needles, providing real-time glucose measurements without penetrating the skin.

By simplifying monitoring, it aims to reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications such as heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, and limb amputations.

The initial target base of Glucowear™ is people with non-insulin dependent type 2 diabetes, with plans to broaden access as the technology and models continue to improve.

Companies such as Apple, Samsung, and Google are widely reported to have explored non-invasive glucose monitoring, but none have yet succeeded. Afon Technology hopes to reach this key milestone first.

The company will showcase its progress to the global diabetes community, presenting a scientific poster at the ATTD 2026: Diabetes Congress (11–14 March) in Barcelona.
