Volunteers sought for type 1 diabetes summer camps

Healthcare professionals with an interest in diabetes are being sought to volunteer at a type 1 diabetes camp this summer.

Clinicians are being encouraged to sign up as volunteers to ‘enhance their professional practice’ and ‘gain invaluable experience’ on managing type 1 diabetes.

Organised by Diabetes UK, the residential camps are designed to support children and young people with type 1 diabetes, without their parents or carers.

During the camp, volunteers will help the children and young people to:

  • Increase their knowledge and confidence living with type 1 diabetes
  • Realise that having type 1 diabetes does not need to stop them doing anything they want to do
  • Come away from camp feeling positive about the future
  • Get to know other children and young people living with type 1 who know exactly what it is like to live with the condition.
