We are looking for an enthusiastic, forward thinking registered nurse with a keen interest in Diabetes Mellitus to join thediabetesspecialist nursing team at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust as a Diabetes Inpatient Specialist Nurse.

Approximately 15% of all inpatients at UHP have diabetes. The diabetes inpatient nursing team work 7 days per week (including weekends and bank holidays) to provide expert diabetes nursing care to inpatients at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and their families/carers. We deliver education and training in diabetes care to other healthcare professionals within the trust.

The Plymouth Diabetes Service comprises of specialist Doctors, Dietitians and Nurses who provide inpatient services, perioperative and outpatient clinics and group education to people with diabetes.

Main duties of the job

To support and educate Health Care Professionals at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.

To act as an expert resource, and facilitator to educate and train other health care professionals across divisional and organisational boundaries.

To provide expert knowledge across UHP for the management and safety of those with diabetes whilst an Inpatient.

Perform audit and research projects and develop policies and procedures to develop the service as required.

The post holder will work within the inpatient team to manage a varying weekly caseload of approximately 5-7 referrals to each team member per day. Referrals are generated from ward staff, consultants, and review of the blood glucose monitoring systems.
