Information sought for new JBDS guidance on diabetes technology in hospital

A diabetes inpatient group is inviting healthcare professionals to support the development of its new guideline on the use of technology in hospital.

The Joint British Diabetes Societies (JBDS) for Inpatient Care has updated the Using technology to support diabetes care in hospital guidance to provide a pragmatic approach to supporting self-management in individuals using wearable technology who are admitted to hospital.

The group would now like to hear from healthcare professionals who have any documents or information sheets they give to people with diabetes wearing technology when they are admitted to hospital.

This technology could include continuous glucose monitoring, insulin pumps and hybrid closed-loop systems.

There is significant variation in the use of all aspects of technology for diabetes management in hospital, with a lack of national guidance in the UK.

According to the JBDS, supporting education and awareness of diabetes technology across multiple specialisms for clinicians and healthcare professionals will be paramount for successful implementation within the hospital setting.

To get involved, please send your diabetes technology in hospital documents or information sheets to p.avari@imperial.ac.uk.
