Updated guidance on how to better manage and monitor diabetic retinopathy has been published by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
This new guideline will support healthcare professionals caring for people with diabetic retinopathy while they are in hospital.
Recommendations on non-proliferative and proliferative diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular oedema are included in the guideline.
Additionally, the document includes guidance on cataract surgery for people with diabetic retinopathy.
The guideline does not include areas covered by the NHS diabetic eye screening programme, such as routine annual screening.
