A handbook has been published by Diabetes Africa to provide essential information for healthcare professionals delivering foot care to people with diabetes who have dark skin tones.
The guidance, Diabetes footcare in dark skin tones, looks at how to address subtle variations in symptoms and disease progression in diabetes-related foot care for those with dark skin.
It covers topics including physiology, history-taking, assessment techniques, and investigative methods.
The handbook, which also features clinical assessments and visual/audio guides, is the product of a unique collaboration across healthcare professional specialities, and with input from people living with diabetes.
Its authors include Dr Bernadette Adeyileka-Tracz, Executive Director of Diabetes Africa, UK, Dr Chris Manu, Consultant Diabetologist at King’s College Hospital NHS Trust Foundation, and Professor Zulfiqarali Abbas, Endocrinologist and President D-Foot International.
The publication is supported by the Royal College of Podiatry and sponsored by Mölnlycke.
