The annual census of consultants in diabetes and endocrinology has begun and will help influence governments, support workforce planning, and contribute to health policy.
Information collected from the census will aid in planning the future workforce of the diabetes and endocrinology speciality, pinpoint existing gaps, and help those working within the sector justify expansions of their departments.
Results will also provide evidence of how hard diabetes and endocrinology consultants work outside their specialty, both in General Internal Medicine and related activities, such as education and management.
Dr Stella George, Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at East and North Herts NHS Trust, said: “There has never been a more important time to gather information about how we’re all working and the impact our jobs have on our lives.”
The census has been sent on behalf of the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists, the Society for Endocrinology, Diabetes UK, and The Royal College of Physicians London.
